Choosing your photographer means choosing the “right” photographer for you and your family. Your photographer can ultimately make or break your session- truly! For many, it’s not just one session. It can be multiple sessions over many years. A good photographer is like an old friend. You see them every so often, they bring a smile to your face, and they know your evolving family. They know your kids and notice the height changes, new haircuts, and the addition of braces. They might even know your pets. Depending on personalities, you might “spill the tea” a little 😉 So, what variables should you take into consideration when perusing your options to find the “right” one? You want to find the one that makes you feel the happy friend vibes, and not the duck-and-hide- avoid-all-eye-contact type.
First, start by doing a preliminary search. Ask for recommendations from friends and family. A good recommendation goes a long way. Search places like Facebook or the all- knowing Google. Make sure you keep it local. Albuquerque, Bernalillo, Rio Rancho, Tijeras, Edgewood and Sandia Park are all reasonable local ABQ, NM options. Sometimes, you may need to narrow down the specialty area, like ABQ maternity and newborn photographer or NM family photographer. Once you have some options, here’s where the fun, or maybe not so fun, starts. Carefully review their websites and social media. Do you love the look of their work? Editing styles are a personal touch, and often are not up for negotiation, so you want to love what you see. Are they a light and bright photographer? Are they a dark and moody photographer? Can you imagine the look they create hanging on your walls?
Additionally, what interaction style do they have? Are you looking for a more posed photographer with very little movement. Think stationary, looking, and smiling. Or are you looking for a little more fun to the session? Think candid interactions, movement, less posed looking. If you have little ones, you might lean towards a more dynamic photographer. One that will run, chase, and play a game or two.
Lastly, don’t forget to review the support they provide and their current reviews. Brownie points for photographers that provide wardrobe guides, wardrobe consultation, location guides, and already have positive reviews supporting the experience they provide. It can be extremely helpful to have pretty pieces of information, structured, organized and easy to view. Watch some of the stress of the session melt away. The process will be more streamlined, and you’ll feel confident that your selections are perfectly what you want!
Having said all that, what type of photographer are you getting when you choose Lovingly Captured. I’m all about the bright and beautiful colors and fun interactions. You’ll get those posed smiling pictures but lots of silly ones as well. I’ll chase down your toddler, play of game of what animal Moos (What?! It’s not a horse?! lol), and I’m never above making fart noises. All those extra brownie point items, like guides and consultations, are offered as part of your photo session experience! I’m a type A personality that loves to organize, create, and complete. You’ll find I’m meticulous about returning emails and meeting deadlines.
If all that sounds like what you want, send me a message. Let’s be friends. The kind that waves and smiles to each other at the grocery store! Hopefully, choosing your photographer is a tad easier now!
